The Mob

This is another one of those classical anarcho-punk bands from beginning of the 80's. Their "Let The Tribe Increase" was released in 1982 by All The Madmen Records. You can find info on them on Kill From The Heart and Wikipedia.

Zounds

Originally released back in 1982 by Rough Trade this is a Rugger Bugger/GAP Recordings reissue of their album + the singles. Zounds were a late discovery for me cos before this reissue I wasn't able to get any of their stuff. I knew they existed by reading zines and listening to older punks stories so I was quite excited when I bought this release and I wasn't wrong. Lyrics are great, and the music is very good anarcho-punk with dark atmosphere. If you want to know more about them there is a Zounds web page and there's a new reissue of this release available from Active Distribution.

James Brook & Ecowar

James Brook is a guy from Australia. I was first introduced to his music and "Resist Is To Win" CD by MarkoS (In Medas Res fanzine) and ripped it cos I liked what I heard (didn't scan the covers – sorry!). On this release he sounds like a punk version of Billy Bragg, dealing with subjects like politics, squatting, sex, wandering around… Ecowar are James Brook with Ernie, a girl from Netherlands (Holland). I saw Ecowar playing in a place called Attack in Zagreb, back in 1998. At that gig I bought their self-titled CD I've put up in this post. Both James Brook and Ecowar have web sites so you can check them here: James Brook, Ecowar.

Crass

What's there to say about Crass? I love them, they changed my life and stuff like that, I suppose… When I first heard them, it was while I was in high school, sometime back in 1990-1991. Vedran K. borrowed their "The Feeding Of The 5000" LP from a guy called Mihun, and we listened to it quite excitedly. They were something different from bands like The Exploited, U.K. Subs, G.B.H., various Oi!/punk bands that we listened to at that time. They even had a song called "Punk Is Dead"! And I've spent all that time writing "Punk's not dead" slogan on walls and school benches and in my notebooks… Fortunately, since it was an original LP, I had a chance to make photocopies of the record cover and sleeve and had more time to analyze the lyrics. I found them great, sort of cynical "we-are-more-moral-than-you" type of lyrics pointed at the people who pretended to be more moral then the rest of us (church, government, school, army, etc.) in which they said things I could personify with. Like the lyrics for "Banned From The Roxy" that go: "Oh yes they say it's defence, they say it's decency, / Mai Lai, Hiroshima, know what I mean? / The same fucking lies with depressing frequency, / They say "We had to do it to keep our lives clean" / Well whose life? Whose fucking life? / Who the fuck are they talking to? / Whose life? Whose fucking life? / I tell you one thing, it ain't me and you." The war in Hrvatska (Croatia) was just starting and I could really identify with Crass and above said/shouted things. More I learned about them, more I liked them. So this are their releases that I got on CDs, and if you want to know more there's a Wikipedia article on them, a very good Southern Records pages on them and you can get some of Crass' stuff from Active Distribution (Christ – The Bootleg CD and more).

HHH

HHH are from Spain and they play really good hardcore. I bought their "Homo Homini Lupus" split LP with Vitu's Dance from Marko V. (Bijesni from Bijes Zdravog Razuma band) sometime between 1994-1996 (can't remember exactly when, I'm not good with years… and names… and places… Guess I've got both short and long-term memory loss, maybe I smoked too much ganja or was it the booze that did it, or occasional glue sniffing in my young days?). I tried to get their other releases but the band was by then (late 1990's) non-functioning and my search was fruitless. You can imagine my happiness when Vedran K. (Mališa is the legend!) got HHH's "Complete Discography 1985-1993" from his friend Phil and showed up with it at my place. I ripped it and scanned the covers so I'm able to put it up here for your enjoyment. I'm sorry that I've given no real info on the band, but there is an info page on Kill From The Heart if you're interested to know more about HHH.
Update on 24.03.2008.: For HHH/Vitu's Dance - (1991) - "Homo Homini Lupus" split LP head over to Röckin' Nöiz. It's a full rip of the LP so you'll get Vitu's Dance side too.

Wat Tyler

This is the one I enjoy listening to very much. They play a mix of everything: punk, metal, pop-punk, rock… The band is named after Wat Tyler, the leader of English Peasants' Revolt of 1381. I was introduced to them by Andrej Č. (Ljubljana-Zalog City Crew) who released theirs "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" album cassette version in this part of the world. I saw them live at No Border Jam festival in Maribor, Slovenia back in 1999 and their performance was for me the best one I saw in two days of the festival. They were funny on stage, playing and acting and telling jokes and entertaining the crowd. Some of their humor is reflected in their CDs covers. As you can see, the cover of "Tummy - Yuppie Shaging Music" is a joke on Portishead's "Dummy" CD cover and the cover for "The Fat Of The Band" is ridiculing Prodigy's "The Fat Of The Land" CD cover. Don't know what they're doing now, but I've found some of their stuff available on Lookout! Records and a MySpace fan page.

Chumbawamba

I was introduced to Chumbawamba through their various tracks on all sorts of compilation tapes that circulated around, usually benefit tapes for hunt saboteurs, or some other political causes. Then I've managed to get copies of their first two LPs, "Pictures Of Starving Children Sell Records" and "Never Mind The Ballots" on tape and I was hooked. I liked their mix of melodical tunes and political criticism. It was refreshing, cos at that time I listened to a lot of anarcho-punk bands from 1980's (you can describe Crass in many ways, but being a melodical band isn't one of them) and a lots of Doom, Hiatus, Swedish D-Beat type of stuff… Since I've decided to put up music that I've ripped myself, here you have mostly Chumbawamba albums from the 1990's. There is quite extensive article on Wikipedia about them so if you're interested in them, go check it out.

Alians

Alians are from Poland. I first heard them when MarkoS from "In Medias Res" fanzine played me their "Megayoga" tape back in 1993-94. They play a mix of punk/reggae/dub, obvious influences being The Clash and Dead Kennedys. I don't know much abut them, but I like two of their releases I've put up for you here. Unfortunately I didn't scan the covers for "Cala Anarchia…" CD when I've ripped it so the front picture is the one I've found on the net. You can check their site here, it's full of info on them but it's in Polish.

NERVOZNI POŠTAR [2006] The Best

I don't know anything about this release except that it is apparently a Nervozni Poštar (Nervous Postman) "The Best Of" release. I got it from a friend, already in mp3 format so I haven't seen an original CD of this release. It doesn't matter, Nervozni Poštar are here so you could have fun. Drink some hard liquor (vodka or rakija if you can get it from some Balkan refugees in your area), free your mind from politically correct nonsense of your daily life, and once, just once, try to feel like a real human being. Being macho, throwing your hands in the air, liking everybody around you!! I heard they're playing again, so if you notice a poster advertising their concert near you, go there, you might have the best time of your life. Nervozni Poštar are from Bosnia, they started playing back in around 1985, and were an instant hit performers, since they mixed folk music with heavy metal/hard rock.

Satan Panonski

This is a hard one to write about. I have so many feelings about it. I love it, I hate it sometimes... When I get drunk it's not a good idea to be near me if this is playing in the background. I got this LP when it came out, back in 1990. Then I worshipped Satan Panonski, he was nearest to some sort of guru that I had. I've listened to and soaked up his lyrics, bought a book of his poems called "Mentalni ranjenik" ("Mentally Wounded"), I even got a tattoo of his logo on my shoulder... I was pretty "buzzed" on him and his work. I don't know how much people outside Hrvatska (and other Ex-Yugoslavia countries) know about him, but he was a legend during his lifetime and still is nowadays. He was from a town called Vinkovci in Istočna Slavonija (Eastern Slavonia) part of Hrvatska. He got into punk in the beginning of the 80's and then got into a fight and killed a man. During his trial he pretended to be crazy (although I don't believe he had to pretend a lot) and avoided jail, but ended up in a prison mental hospital for indefinitely. There he continued doing music, painting/drawing and writing poetry. The authorities used to sometimes let him out on the weekends and he had gigs all around the Ex-Yugoslavia: in Zagreb, in Beograd (Belgrade - capital of Serbia) etc. When the war came, the scum we Hrvati (Croatians) call "our first president" Franjo Tuđman (I'll deal with that Nazi son of a bitch in some other post) signed an amnesty and Satan (together with other criminals - murderers and rapists and thieves - who better to do those dirty things in a war!) got out. He joined the Croatian Army, released a tape called "Kako je panker branio Hrvatsku" ("How A Punk Defended Croatia") and died around the beginning of 1992. It was a fun time for warmongering tabloids, he was at that time a very good fodder for their idiotic stories, they cooked up a mystery: was he killed by the Croatian state? or was it some other sinister plot? or was it an accident? I personally believe it was an accident, his gun accidentally went off and blew his brains out. In a way I'm happy that he ended up dead, because he was going somewhere I couldn't follow. He had some anti-Serbian songs on that "Kako je panker..." tape, nationalistic and primitive and I didn't like it and I still don't like it. But this LP is a must, it was released by Slušaj Najglasnije (Listen Loudest) label and I have to say that this is a CD version of it, the only difference being that song no. 15 isn't on the original LP.

1980's Hardcore/Punk

I was too young (or maybe too ignorant) to listen to any of these bands when they originally came out, but I had the luck of knowing a guy who needed money when he was in his recreational junkie phase and who sold me this 7" EPs cheaply. I got hooked on them (Punk, Not Junk!!) cos the bands were fast, angry and exciting.
Raped Teenagers are from Sweden, this is their first 7" EP. I couldn't understand a word of what they were singing (or better said - screaming) about, but they kicked ass. I later bought their "I Kräftans Klor" album and it was a bit different (more melodic maybe) than the first 7" but still definitely a Raped Teenagers record. I have to admit that I don't understand why this band isn't more popular, I rarely see their stuff mentioned when people write about Swedish hardcore/punk bands. I think it's not fair so check them out, you won't be sorry!!!
Scraps are from a town of Lille, France, and are also one of my favourite bands. You can guess what their views are by looking at the song titles like "Le Pen Fuck You" or "Make Noise, Not Music". Unfortunately I don't understand much French so I don't know a lot about this band except from what I was able to decipher from their 7" records sleeves.
Senseless Death is a 7" compilation of U.S. hardcore bands released by Nuclear Blast Records from Germany. My favourite band is Impulse Manslaughter (also very good songs by Psycho and AMQA). Impulse Manslaughter are my ultimate American HC band. I think they're from Chicago, but don't trust me a 100% on this information. I also have their "He Who Laughs Last... Laughs Alone" LP, but unfortunately it has been ruined by too much scratches and so making it impossible to rip from (I bought it second hand, and listened to it quite a lot, and then recklessly borrowed it to some idiotic people - NEVER BORROW YOUR VINYL!! - people are careless pigs!). If anyone has a link to anywhere where I could get that LP please let me know!!!
All releases in this post are vinyl rips, so they're not perfect...

Patareni EPs! (NOT ANY MORE!)

It got removed by request from Patareni.
I guess I wasn't fast enough to remove them myself (tbh, I was doing too much New Year celebrating and fighting a monster hangover after that to do any work on the blog) so I suppose Patareni got tired of waiting for me.
This is what I got from MediaFire as explanation why the stuff was removed:
"Hi Jodi, Davor is here.Well what's going on?After 1000000000000 proofs that was sent by me we finally started to work on removing illegal files and now itis been stopped. What's going on?Please remove illegal files of my band.Best regards.Davor"
Well, it was their right to do it, so now you guys will need to find their stuff somewhere else, cos I'm not going to be re-posting this or uploading any of their stuff in the future.
If any other band wants their stuff removed I am more than happy to do it, it will take some time though, as I am not doing this blog on regular basis (as you might have already noticed).

Pula Punk

There is also the best punk town in Hrvatska to mention. That town is called Pula. From that town come some of the best punk & hardcore bands that I've ever listened to. I'm totally crazy about this band, called Anti Otpad (Anti Garbage). They played back in 1990 and 1991 and released an album called My Parents Tell Me That I'm Bad for Slušaj Najglasnije (or Listen Loudest) label. Then they were inactive for a few years and when they got together again they released this two albums: Totalno sam ljut na ovaj svijet (or I'm Totally Pissed Off At This World) which is my No. 1 ever punk release in Hrvatska, and Radnički san (or Workers Dream) with some of the best lyrics and hardcore music I've ever heard.

Just to get you going - some of the lyrics are:
Song no. 5 - Radsan (from Radnički san CD):
Došao sam kući u 5 ujutro / I came home at 5 AM
otvorio špinu, iz nje je krenulo vino / I opened the tap, wine started to run
od sreće sam si popio malo / I was so happy and drunk some
sve je oko mene na trenutak stalo / Everything stopped around me for a moment
to je bio samo bijedni radnički san / It was just a pathetic working mans dream

This album is a K7 (cassette) realease, but Danijel B. (Bregana rules!!) played around with a K7 cover, and thanx to him I can give you a CD look-alike cover.

Well… download them all!!!

This society needs a Radical Change!!!

I used to be friends with people from this band Radikalna Promjena (or Radical Change in English). They were one of the best anarcho-punk bands in the second half of the '90 in Hrvatska, I really liked them a lot (and I still do). They moved on to a different style of music and now are in a band called Radikal Dub Kolektiv (Radical Dub Collective). They recently released their second album called "Bass Matters" on Universal Egg label run by a guy from Zion Train. This is never released album from Radikalna Promjena just before they disbanded so check it out.

First one!!!

This is the first time I'm doing something like this so you'll have to forgive me if I screw something up. I started doing this blog thing with no specific intention or the way I wanted it to be, so I'll be as surprised as you when we see what comes out of this.
I live in Croatia, or as we people who live in this country call it - Hrvatska. (I don't know where Croatia comes from, I guess I'm a bad patriot).
I'm from city of Zagreb which is Hrvatska's capital city. Population is around 900.000. Sometimes it can be a pretty ugly city, especially in autumn and winter when it's gray and depressing.
I'm 33 years old, I have a boring job, no girlfriend (but I have a girl with whom I occasionally... well you know...), I live with my parents cos I don't have enough money to rent or buy a flat so I'm waiting on them to die so I could have my own space... Fun life!
Well, that's enough about me, I would like to say something about the blog itself. It's called Nečista savjest which in Croatian means Guilty Conscience. It's a project of mine that I've been doing for a couple of years now, I made some short amateur movies under that name, and I also helped release a CD by a band called Dekubitus from Zagreb.
The CD is called Kronologija zločina or something like Chronology Of Crime in English. To describe this band is a little hard cos I've never listened to something quite like it, but if I would have to compare it to something I would say it's a mix of Satan Panonski and G.G. Allin.
I've put it up on DivShare so here is it:
